Wallpaper is back!!

I love wallpaper and am so happy that more and more of my clients are asking me to incorporate wallpaper in their homes. There are four spaces that are the most popular for wallpaper - powder rooms, dining rooms, nurseries and home office spaces. Here are some of my favorites from recent client projects.

What a difference it made in elevating the whole space!!

Powder rooms are the perfect space in a home to add some beautiful wallpaper.

In this project we swapped out the old wallpaper for new stunning paper!!

We also replaced the old wallpaper with something more modern in this home office for a fresh look.

Dining rooms are another fantastic opportunity to install wallpaper:

Designing a nursery almost makes me wish that I had another baby! I loved this accent wall that we did behind my client’s crib.

How to decorate kitchen shelves - Bergen County interior designer

I remember back when I was planning my own kitchen renovation, I had open shelving on my “must-have” list (along with a wall of windows, marble countertops, inset cabinets, hardwood floors and a deep sink). It’s been 6 years now and I have absolutely no regrets about any decision that we made. And I really love to play around with what I display on the shelves. I am always on the lookout for some pretty and functional pieces. Here is our current look:

I find that many clients tell me they get overwhelmed by the thought of decorating shelves or finding things to put on their countertops. Most of the items that I have on there are still currently out there on various sites so I rounded them up for you to shop the look.

Happy Shopping!

Minwax Wood Floor Stain options - which are my favorites?

I know that white oak floors are all the rage right now, and I do love them so much. But they are quite expensive to install and it is not always feasible if you are doing a renovation (rather than a new build) and have existing flooring that you are looking to keep and just re-stain. Many older homes in New Jersey were built with red oak floors (including my own 1960’s home). So I have worked on many renovations and additions where we have needed to find a floor stain for red oak.

Here is a photo that I took of the samples of several of my favorite Minwax stains.

We selected Weathered Oak and I am thrilled with how it came out in my client’s home. I think this is the closest look to White Oak floors.

In this renovation project we did Early American which is stunning:

In this home from the 1920’s, we used Early American on the floors, and Provincial on the open shelves.

Here is another photo of various minwax stains at a client project- we are going with Weathered Oak!

So don’t stress if your home doesn’t have white oak floors - there are lots of gorgeous stains for red oak floors!
