Living Room Transformation with gallery wall - Bergen County decorator

I am so happy to share this recent Bergen County living room transformation. We kept the floors and paint color (and the piano) but replaced all of the furniture and added wall decor to make the room feel brand new. I especially love how the gallery wall came out!

Here is where we started with the space:

There is a cozy new leather chair in the corner and there is more seating now in the space.

We kept the piano but added some pretty art above it and the new storage piece is perfect for hiding some toys.

I love the black nesting tables for the coffee table rather than another wooden piece of furniture.

From NYC to Bergen County- Project Reveal - Ridgewood interior designer

My clients first contacted me last October when they were in the process of buying their first home in Bergen County after living in NYC with their young kids. The home they were purchasing did not need any construction / renovation right away but they needed help with furnishing and decorating. Because they were coming from a NYC apartment that was smaller than this new house, we were starting from scratch for the whole first floor. I am so happy that everything is finally installed and we had our photo shoot last week. Come take a tour!

Let’s start with the entryway - I love this console table paired with the round mirror and if you look closely there is a fun woven strap detail on the mirror.

As you can see in th e mirror, the opposite wall is a bench with hooks as a drop zone for the family and guests.

Next you walk into an open space which is the main family room of the home. We added built-ins on the one side of the TV to hide some of the electronics related to the TV and it gave us an opportunity to add some decor.

Here is where we started with this space:

The round coffee table is very kid friendly but also so pretty!

There is a console table behind the sofa which was a perfect spot to display family photos.

You can see from some of the earlier photos that the dining room is part of this big open space.

Here is the before photo of the dining room area.

The art has such a beautiful texture and pairs so well with the new light fixture.

The office is another space that we worked on and I love that my client’s husband wanted to go bold with the walls in here!

I wish I had a better “before” photo but it was basically an empty room :)

What kind of Window Treatments should I use? The Ultimate Window Treatment Guide

What should I put on my windows? Do I need anything on these windows? I need privacy but also don’t want it to be too dark in this room, what should I do? The topic of window treatments comes up a lot for me with clients during consultations as well as when I am working with clients on a renovation project. I’m going to go over some of the more common types of window treatments along with photo examples from some client projects.

Let’s start with Roman Shades - whether you do a pattern or a solid fabric, the shades are functional and beautiful. In the below example, my client wanted the ability to raise and lower the shades and have a liner for blackout purposes. We did raise them all the way on photo shoot day to allow as much natural light as possible to come in on a cloudy day.

Drapes are ideal when you don’t need to open and close them regularly. It’s also a great option when you have space on either side of the window trim to let the drapes extend past the windows. How fun is the ruffle detail on the drapes in my example below?! This was for a tween bedroom transformation.

Woven Woods are one of my favorite window treatments - as you can see in my three example photos from client projects, they come in a variety of different colors/textures and they are easy to raise and lower.

What is your favorite window treatment?

What are the best sources for Wallpaper? The Ultimate Wallpaper Guide

I love using wallpaper and am always excited when a client tells me that they are up for incorporating it into a space in their home. Typically I have tended to use wallpaper in powder rooms and dining rooms, but lately I have used it in a couple of bedrooms and an office. It makes such an impact even if you go with a more subtle paper.

Here is a roundup of some of my favorite places to find wallpaper!

I’ll start with York Wallcoverings which is the company that makes this beautiful paper we used in my client’s home office. I love that this paper has a bit of golden shimmer to it and yet still works so well in this masculine space.

Next up is Serena & Lily ! We used this paper as an accent wall behind my client’s bed and it is so subtle but really makes the room sing. I have another bedroom project ongoing right now and we just had a Serena and Lily grasscloth paper installed - I can’t wait to share the finished room photos.

Phillip Jeffries has SO many options that I love and is my first choice when a client wants to go BOLD and dramatic. I love how we transformed both of these bathroom by incorporating their fabulous patterns.

Graham and Brown makes so many fun options and this one was the winner for my client’s dining room. We also installed the wall paneling because I think this type of pattern could get a bit too busy if it were floor to ceiling in a space this large.

I love Anthropologie for their fashion and home decor, but they also sell some playful and whimsical wallpaper.

Where are your favorite places to shop for wallpaper? Are you planning to use wallpaper in your home this year?
